I Lost 40 pounds!

Scott Turner

I’ve become much more mindful, centered and able to handle everyday stressors and I’ve lost 40 pounds doing this yoga! I’m setting health priorities and boundaries at work and sticking to them.

SCOTT’S LIFE BEFORE YOGA

Prior to joining Thrive Hot Yoga, I spent the previous 25 years in corporate field roles traveling back and forth to Asia and Europe a few times a month. This led to unhealthy eating habits and eating out with local teams in many countries. That, combined with 20-30 hour flight times each way, and little time for exercise, led to backaches and longer post-travel recovery times.

SCOTT’S FIRST CLASS

The first day was nothing like I imagined. I was very nervous about putting my modest out-of-shape body in the mix. Within 10 minutes, I realized it was all in my head. I felt a renewed level of energy and started to spring around on the floor with the excitement. Leaving the room after the practice, I felt a strong sense of euphoria and committed to practice daily for 30 days.

SCOTT’S HEALTH BENEFITS

I started to feel my body become more flexible. I started proactively changing elements in my life to help my practices (improving sleep, diet, positive thoughts). I’ve definitely gotten stronger and more flexible. I regained feeling in the back of my left thigh from a damaged nerve in an accident 35 years ago. I’ve become much more mindful, centered and able to handle everyday stressors and I’ve lost 40 pounds doing this yoga! I’m setting health priorities and boundaries at work and sticking to them.

I’ve become super-disciplined about putting health “first” and ensuring my new team knew this was an important priority for me, which means more meetings are scheduled around my practice sessions. I regained control of my health and attitude toward physical activity. My yoga practice is a priority, as is eating well. The back aches are gone and I have incredible energy now!

SCOTT’S ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS

I’ve learned it is all about discovering your individual limits and experimenting with them during the session. And when you are finished, don’t try to overthink how you think you did. Let it go until your next practice. My biggest learning was not to set such a high expectation on myself each practice. Rather, bring my best, relax, and enjoy the journey and the peace that YOUR 90-minute yoga class will provide.
