26 and 2 Yoga + 26.2 Marathon Training = A Match Made In Heaven

My balance, patience, focus have also improved. I am also more tolerant to the hot, humid Michigan summers while running knowing how to focus on my breathing and stay calm when I’m dripping with sweat!

When was your first class? How did it go?

2013? First one was good, but then I struggled for a bit until I kept going on a regular basis.

What led you to start hot yoga?

I didn't often push myself outside of my comfort zone, now I enjoy it.

If you are returning to hot yoga after some time away, what brings you back and how do you feel now that you are back into a healthy routine?

SO GOOD! The covid shut down was hard as I was in a good routine. Love getting back into the classroom and have been enjoying the positive effects it's had on my life.

What health benefits do you get from hot yoga?

I feel accomplished, especially the early morning classes.

How does your life outside the yoga studio benefit?

My hips and hamstrings are tight from running and this allows for me to get areas stretched and strengthened that are usually are overlooked. My balance, patience, focus have also improved. I am also more tolerant to the hot, humid Michigan summers while running knowing how to focus on my breathing and stay calm when your dripping with sweat and the air feels thick and soupy!

What is your favorite thing about the studio?

The variety of instructors! I love going to different classes and hearing different stories (or different playlists)! With the repetitiveness of the flow (which I love knowing what is coming next), it's nice to open your mind to new thinking (i.e. Gavin, Deepa, etc).

I also LOVE the zoom/on-line database that was established. Yin and Yoga nindra are amazing and don't require the hot room so I can enjoy on my own. It's also nice to follow along for the poses to get a better feel on how to execute them!

What advice do you have for beginners?

Focus on YOU! It's your practice, don't worry about what the person next to you is doing. If they sit down, it doesn't mean you have to. BUT if you need to take a break, it okay! It's practice for a reason. Enjoy it, smile, sweat! Oh and come hydrated to class, it took me a LONG time to get through a series of poses without grabbing for my water bottle.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
